What the title says, Oppo.
I’m exhausted. I drink a lot of iced tea for the caffeine and lack of calories. I also shotgun a Coke Zero or two per day when stressed and if in a real emergency I grab one of my wife’s Red Bulls.
I’d like to hear how you keep chemically powering through during exhaustion. Whaddaya got, Oppo?
Edit: Thank you for all the suggestions! Wow I’ve never seen my pending notifications so high

A good cup of Colombian medium- dark roast coffee made in a French press. Just a tad of sugar to help smooth it out maybe juust enough cream to start lightening it. perfection.

These are my preferred energy drinks. Non-carbonated and only like 10 calories per can:
Also, get some of that good sudafed, the kind they keep behind the counter. I take this daily during allergy season, and it definitely is a stimulant :

I just don’t. I’m too old for that shit. But when I was young, I kept a bottle of caffeine tablets from Target for the occasional all nighter . When it came to getting down to business, I didn’t have time for Jolt, or Mountain Dew, or whatever sugar water.

You know I always joke about getting some cocaine whenever I have s cold. I hear it dries out the sinuses so it might work. The slight tendency to be addicting is a concern though

Something my local coffee shop calls a Cha i Bomb . A c hai latte already h as as much caffeine as a cup of coffee, add two shots of espresso and you’ll be practically vibrating at your desk.

I respect your ability to make coffee in a French press. I know it’s not that difficult, but I never had the patience and my palate doesn’t care between crap coffee and good coffee.
The cream thing, though I can get behind.

I prefer the mucinex-D because it's a 12 hour, and a lot of sudafed is only 4-6 hours. Just be sure you get D, not DM. Big difference.

LOL I wish I was joking when I say I could go to about 12 different neighborhood people within a 5 mile radius and get hooked up with some. They prob wouldn’t have it in stock yet this early in the year but could I could order it.

That’s my method. I stay away from caffeine most of the time, but if I feel like I really need a mental/social boost for something.... Half of a caffeine pill does the trick.
Although there's a coffee cider at a local brewery that is incredibly addictive. And dangerous, at roughly 300mg of caffeine

There is little that can compete with sugar free Red Bull. It’s the caffeine low that you get on the back side that sucks

I’ve got a N espresso machine in my office. We use a Chemex pour over at home. I drink coffee black. I’ve got the espresso pods and coffee pods for the Nespresso. Most of the time I’ll drink em straight up sometimes I’ll water down the espresso pods, Americano style.

Coffee and snacking on proteins - usually walnuts or almonds. If I’m really losing it and I need to stay up, going for a walk can re-set my energy level for a little bit. I try to stay away from sugar because when it wears off I’ll crash hard.

Speaking from limited professional human performance experience...
Caffiene works great if you take it a couple of hours before you need peak alertness.
More serious stimulants, like “go pills” work in emergency situations, but you will pay for it for a few days.
The only long-term solution to fatigue is sleep. You will sleep, either during scheduled sleep or unscheduled naps and microsleeps.
Also, sleeping pills do not provide restorative sleep for your brain. Your muscles will rest, but your mind won’t, and you will still have a sleep deficit.

Cold Brew coffee. You get taste, good potency, and also the chance to store it for a relatively long time. But it does have some drawbacks, I’ve never made a successful carajillo with cold brew coffee... it has no foam!
Starbucks waters their's down, so it's not that potent, but properly made cold brew is otherwise easily obtained if you know who to ask in what coffee shop.

This is the one I just bought from Walmart. I gaurentee you taste a difference if done proper. It’s honestly prob easier than you think. Microwave or heat water right to the boil point, when the kettle just starts to make noise. The coffe grounds are already in the French press. You pour the water in ON TOP of the grounds. Always put grounds in first. Next put on lid don’t press. Wait four minutes. Slowly press down to the t he desired amount and pour. The French press smooths our the coffee and helps reduce the acidity because it retains the beans natural oils. A filter coffee removes that. A really good cup of coffee has a thin oil slick on top, ok maybe not but you can see the oils

Years ago I was telling one of my coworkers to get some Mucinex-D, and I definitely said "oh, I'm all about the D!" rather loudly in the office without realizing what I had said.

A proper amount of sleep is my only solution. I accept that without sleep, life will suck and I’ll be tired and such is life. Sure you can say, “but I don’t have time for that”. But, I believe that is simply poor planning no matter what. I plan everything in my life around getting 8 hours of sleep. Sure sometimes I can only manage 6-7 and it works but I can’t function on 4-5 without suffering consequences. I drink zero caffeine and rely only on meals, snacks, and water to keep me going.

These past few years, I’ve developed the problem of my worries and anxieties running through my head and keeping me up. I’ve developed three ways of dealing with that. First, I do have an Ambien prescription. I don’t like to use it several nights in a row, or it seems to add up and make it hard to get up. Second, a nice little drinky-poo before bed calms my mind just enough to nod off. Third, I just read something or watch something I like to calm my mind. Sometimes reading Oppo qualifies. This is the best way to do it. I’ll try one of these three methods and end up with a pretty good night.
The most important thing as I get older is to follow my biorhythms. My brain wants to go to bed around 10 to 10:30. I do best if I listen to it.

Coffee nap!
1. Make a cup of coffee
2. Drink it in five minutes or so
3. Go lie down, close your eyes, and try to sleep for 15-20 minutes.
You wake up when the caffeine is starting to kick in. It’s been scientifically shown to have more benefit for wakefulness than either coffee or a nap alone.
It does require a suitable environment, or formidable napping skills.

I like my coffee, especially a cappuccino , but I don’t like it to be my source of caffeine for some reason.
Coffee cider sounds really weird, like it could be a bizarre and inspired delight, or gross and vomit-inducing.

I drink 60 ounces of coffee per day.

If a cup is 8 ounces, that’s 7.5 cups a day. Are these spaced out over the waking hours or are they concentrated at certain times?

Starbucks brewed coffee in the AM or Death Wish if making it at home. I’ve been into the Rockstar Recovery non-carbonated drinks at lunch recently. Otherwise original Monster. Then Coke or Dr. Pepper at dinner time - anything more leaded than that and I don’t sleep well. Also I only sleep like 12-5 every night and am probably doing terrible things to my health so you probably shouldn’t listen to me.

Monster Zero Ultra in the morning, a cup of coffee when I get to the office, 2 or 3 Forto coffee shots to top up during the day, and then maybe another coffee after work if I’m doing something afterward.
By the way, these things are delicious. I’ve started keeping a few packs in my credenza at all times. Just wish there was an easier/cheaper way to buy them in bulk, currently I think they a ll come bar coded for individual sale.

I’m pretty young, but I have cut out caffeine almost completely. Honestly, it only makes me anxious and then fatigued when it wears off. I’ll have the occasional monster or cappuccino (once or twice a month) but any more than that and I start feeling ill.
My best stimulant is regular exercise and a healthy amount of sleep. It’s so hard to make them time for both of those, but when the stars align and I do, it is more than worth it. Sorry to be “mom” but I just don’t think chemicals can substitute for what your body needs.

I mean, you’re not wrong, dude, and I should exercise more. These long workdays are just not great for anything but swivel chair spread.

I can still haul ass around the lake on a hand cycle. Father time may have to win in the end, but I’m not going down without a fight.
![]() 03/30/2019 at 00:10 |

Pay attention to your sleep cycle. Most people’s are between three and four hours long and they go through two cycles a night. It’s important to wake up at the end of a cycle. If you start another cycle and the alarm goes off, you’re pulled out mid-cycle and it really screws you up.
I usually go to bed around midnight and get up around 4:30. If I go to sleep earlier, I wake up earlier in the morning. If I go back to sleep and wake up at the regular time, I’m groggy and miserable all day.

I always keep a bag of Costa Rican Tarrazu coffee and a pair of reusable Keurig pods in my desk. It’s the only thing that gets me through early mornings. I do also partake in Monster’s sugar-free offerings, but that’s usually more for when I’m doing an outdoor activity that coffee will give me too much heartburn for.

I’ve been weightlifting and fasting sixteen hours a day for the last month and half and haven’t needed so much as a cup of coffee to stay alert. Nothing too strenuous, just a solid 45 minute routine hitting all the major groups alternating days between legs and upper body. I have two kids and a few jobs, but they all involve interacting with and explaining things to a captive audience, so no risk of dosing off.

Apple liquor and white monster. You are drunk AND caffeinated.

I was scared to try it, but somehow it's become my go-to. Especially great when used to start a long night of cider house hopping

I need good sleep or I don’t work properly especially with my severe anxiety and depression. I find that caffeine can help a tiny bit but it really comes down to getting sleep for me so I’ve made it a priority. It’s easier to prioritize when you feel miserable and useless and have intense negative self talk/world view and sometimes suicidal thoughts if you don’t sleep properly.

A pour over is just like manually doing drip coffee but you grind the beans right before you do it. Somehow pouring it over the beans in a circular motion makes it all kinds of good. Chemex is the brand of the one that we use.
